Ralph D. Lundy, Jr. just completed his 30th year as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at the College of Charleston. During his career, he has guided Charleston to over 300 victories and five NCAA national tournament appearances. In 2010, College of Charleston earned a share of the Southern Conference regular season championship, receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Div I Championships advancing to the 2nd round. In 2004, the Cougars captured the Southern Conference Championship and a bid to the NCAA Men's College Cup, advancing to the 2nd round. Charleston finished the season with a a 17-6-1 record and a national ranking of 20th in the final NSCAA Division I National Poll. Prior to the 2004 season, the Cougars competed in the NCAA Division I National Championships three consecutive years ('94, '95, '96), highlighted by advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1994. Coach Lundy's teams have been composed of camp veterans. The 2004 team had 12 former RLSA campers. Lundy has coached 18 All-Americans, 9 US National Team players and has amassed over 435 wins. He is currently a member of the USYSA Region III coaching staff. 

Coach Lundy is a Marine Corps veteran and is married to the former Elizabeth Knight of York, SC. They have three children -- Harper Elizabeth, Ralph III, and Lettie Rebecca.

Ralph D. Polson - Assistant Director

Ralph Polson has been coaching at the collegiate level for some 35 years (25 as a head coach). He just completed his 9th season as head men's coach at Wofford College. The Terriers finished 2016 with a 12-7-0 record.  In 2014, Polson won his 250 career game as a head coach. In 2013, he led Wofford to their 2nd Southern Conference Championship in the past five years. In 2012, the Wofford Terriers finished the season as Runners-up in the Southern Conference Tournament Championship. In 2009, the Wofford Terriers won the Southern Conference Regular season championship and SoCon Tournament Championship, earning a berth in the NCAA Men's Div I National Tournament. During the 2008 season Polson reached a coaching milestone, winning his 200th career game as a college head coach. Prior to taking over at Wofford in February of 2008, he spent eight years as the Associate Head Coach at the College of Charleston. He helped lead the Cougars to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship and a bid to the NCAA Men's College Cup in 2004. He served as the head coach at Presbyterian College for 17 years prior to his arrival at CofC in 2000. He was the winningest coach in the history of the South Atlantic Conference, winning four conference championships and participating in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Coach Polson is a Past President of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, having served as the Association's President in 2012. He has also served as an instructor for the NSCAA GK Diploma courses and NSCAA Special Topics courses. He currently serves as the National Chairman for the NSCAA Men's Senior College All-America Committee. He is a former Director of Coaching for the SCYSA Boys State Select Team Program and a member of the USYSA Region III Olympic Development Program coaching staff. He holds a USSF "A" license. He has been a member of the RLSA staff since 1977. 

Keith Wiggans - Key Staff

Wiggans, a former College of Charleston goalkeeper and 4 time RLSA camper, helped the 2004 team earn a Southern Conference Championship and a berth in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament. He is currently the goalkeeper coach for the College of Charleston Men's Soccer Team, a position he has held since 2008.  Since graduating, Wiggans divided his time playing for the Charleston Battery from 2005-2011, and coaching goalkeepers at West Virginia University Men's Soccer Team and the College of Charleston Women's Soccer Team.  While coaching at the college level, Wiggans has helped produce a First Team All-American Goalkeeper in 2006 and a Freshmen All-American Goalkeeper in 2010.  He completed his Masters in Athletic Coaching Education  and holds a USSF "B" Coaching License.  


Jack Turbiville - Key Staff

A Presbyterian College graduate, where he played on three Conference championship teams. He also served as assistant coach on both the men's and women's teams at his alma mater. He has been a valuable staff member since 1993. Jack has served as a member of the Leadership Team, assisting in the day-to-day camp operations, for the past fifteen years. He serves as one of the directors of goalkeeping. He holds a USSF "C" license.

 

Phil Thomas - Key Staff

A former goalkeeper at Presbyterian College, Phil was the head boys soccer coach and athletic director at 6A Centennial High School in Roswell, GA from 2003-2014.  Currently Phil is the head boys soccer coach at 6A Pope High School in Marietta, GA and also is a staff coach with North Atlanta Soccer Association (NASA). Phil serves in a multitude of roles for the camp, leading both goalkeeping and field sessions, in addition to his day-to-day adminstrative responsibilities.  Phil holds both a USSF National License and a NSCAA National Diploma.


Shane Calvert - Key Staff

Shane Calvert has been a member of the RLSA staff for over 10 yeras. He is currently the Assistant coach for the Wofford College Men's team. Prior to joining the Terriers in February 2015, Shane spent one season as an assistant at Clemson University. He helped lead the Tigers to the 2014 ACC Championship and a trip to the NCAA National Tournament. Calvert holds both the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and the National Goalkeeping Diploma.


Barry Slagle - Key Staff

Barry Slagle just completed his first season as the assistant coach at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY after spending two years as the head men's coach at Newberry College in Newberry, SC. Previously, he served as assistant coach at Wofford College for three years. In 2009, the Wofford Terriers completed their finest season ever in Div I competition, winning the Southern Conference Regular season championship and SoCon Tournament Championship, earning a berth in the NCAA Men's Div I National Tournament. Barry plays in integral part in the day to day operations of the camp.

 

Jodie Smith - Key Staff

Jodie has been with RLSA since 1993. He is currently the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Alabama State University. Prior to ASU, Coach Smith has been the Head Coach at Georgia State and Mercer University totaling 18 years as a collegiate soccer coach.

Active in the youth ranks as well, Jodie is a staff coach with the Alabama ODP staff and currently is the Girls Academy Director of the Capitol City Streaks located in Montgomery, AL . Prior to his move to Alabama he was a member of the Georgia ODP staff. 

Jodie has a USSF “B” license as well as the USYSA National Youth License. He helps oversee the day to day operations as well as staff administration of the camp.

 

Michael Nance - Key Staff

Coach Mike Nance has been working with RLSA since 1989. He played high school and club soccer in Georgia and was a member of the Hotspur 1974 U-19 which made the national semi-finals under legendary coach Scottie O’Neill. He coached Druid Hills High School (Atlanta) boys for 21 years and wining over 200 games. He was the Alpharetta High School Boys’ Head Coach from 2004-2009 before taking a break from coaching while his daughter Renee was playing for the Raiders Women’s soccer team (Ga. Southern 2016). In 2013 he became Womens’ Soccer Assistant Coach and Women’s Head Coach in 2014.


Ralph Lundy, III - Key Staff

Ralph currently serves as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston where he also played from 2009-2012. He was selected to the All-SoCon team as a senior, when he helped lead his team to the 2nd round of the NCAA Div. I Men's National Tournament. He played professionally with the Charleston Battery of the USL and Caledonia AIA of the Trinidad and Tobago professional League. He has also serves as a coach with USA-Mount Pleasant.

 

Tam McGowan - Key Staff

He was promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2016 season after spending his first year with the College of Charleston in a volunteer capacity. Before becoming a coach, Tam captained the Cougars in 2013 when he started all 18 games for the squad. Tam helped the Cougars transition into their first season in the Colonial Athletic Association by being named a second-team All-CAA selection and voted team MVP. In 2012, McGowan's first season at The College, he started all 19 games and logged 1653 minutes (87 minutes per game). Before Charleston, he was captain of Cloud County Community College soccer team for two seasons, leading the Cloud to the 2011 National Junior College National Championship.


Thomas Hunter - Key Staff

He currently serves as the goalkeeper coach at Wofford College. He is also a member of the SCYSA Boy's ODP staff. He is a 2010 graduate of Wofford College, helping lead the Terriers in 2009 to their first ever Southern Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and a berth in the NCAA Div. I National Tournament.
